Our sensory mark-making tray as well as supporting early writing, developed some wonderful creative expression and imagination, as well as maths. It was a true sensory and physical experience, offering calming and tactile stimulus, which was enjoyed by all ages and abilities.
Playing alongside friends in the sensory tray takes away the pressure for a particular outcome and allows the children to develop their own games, scenarios and learning experience.
After adding shaving foam snow for the penguins, the children added gel to create ice in their snowy world. Vocabulary and understanding of the world was extended by chatter about the Emperor penguins living in the Antarctica.
